The party went really well. Xia had no idea where it was being held, but knew when it was going to happen. It wasn't a total surprise, because she never wanted it to be so. She was afraid a surprise shower might put her into shock and give birth. I know, I know..., it sounds crazy, but that's Xia for you. That's what makes Xia, Xia :).
The shower was held at Asia Hudson in Guttenburg. The place was all decked out thanks to the wonderful work of Sal, Xia's best-est friend in the world. Between Sal and Andrea, another good friend of Xia's, invites, decorations and all things involved in the shower were great. We just got the thank you cards and will be filling those out in the coming days. There's a lot of thanks to go around, cause we're really lucky to have such great family and friends.
So if I don't see you, or you don't get a thank you card, (shame on Xia and I) consider this our thanks.
Aug. 18th: Delaware Water Gap
The next Saturday Xia and I, along with the Maitin Family, went to the Delaware Water Gap. We hung out the entire day at the state park. The weather conditions were great, very much like fall, with temps in the 70s. Xia and I took advantage and did an easy 30 minute hike from our park area to a town called Millbrook. It's a small town preserved to look as it did back around the turn of the 20th century. Along the trail we came across the town cemetery, where we saw headstones dating back as far as the mid 1800s. I think the most exciting thing though, was Xia being able to use her hiking poles. After I'd purchased them for her, she sprained her knee and wasn't able to hike. After that she became pregnant and couldn't hike. This "hike" I described above, was basically a walk down a gravel / dirt road, but nonetheless fun.
Aug. 11th - Aug 25th: Apartment Hunting
In case you didn't know, we're moving back to Jersey. Our lease is up at the end of September and we've kind of been looking since the beginning of August in case we weren't renewing our lease. We had begun looking in Brooklyn around the Bay Ridge area, and then in Queens. But as they say in the movies, we got on offer we couldn't refuse. Xia's mom has offered to babysit Will full time. The catch was we had to move to Jersey closer to her. That was more than enough of an incentive to move back. So now we've been making multiple trips to Jersey during the week to see places. Our #1 choice seems to have fallen through, but we have a solid back-up. We'll know in the coming week if we're going to take it or not.
In honor of moving back to Jersey I present a little song by Marc Ribot Y Los Cubanos Postizos. The title of the song translates to "The Hills of New Jersey". Listening to it, recalls memories of old Cuban songs from exiles reminiscing of Cuba. I wouldn't be surprised of the frame work for this song just replaced the word Cuban with New Jersey. Ohh the bands names translates to Marc Ribot And The False Cubans. Look em up and buy an album or two, they're very good.
